A day spa sells longer treatments and packages rather than an hour of massage: a body scrub, a wrap, a massage and a facial, often two to four hours in all. Treatments are in private rooms with a shower, and most spas ask you to book.

Prices are higher than at a massage shop, and most spas publish a full menu. Look for what a package includes and whether tax and service charge are added on top.

Do I need to book a spa?
